St Matthew's Community Church

sna (Sunday Night Alive) was started many years ago to provide a place for young adults to meet and "be church" together.  Since then it has oscillated between being a youth or young adult dominated service.  At the moment we are predominantly made up of young adults (average age about 21), but we have a big group of year 7 and 8's who have started attending.

A normal service is made up of singing, sharing and a message focused on being a follower of Jesus in today's culture.  Note however that lots of our services aren't normal.  Every third week we ditch the band, and either have  some alternative worship activity or just chill out around a bbq sharing each others lives.   

We go through pastor's pretty quick (about every 2 years) - they are generally training to be ministers and have to move on for another placement or to get ordained.  Each one brings their own emphasis and take on the gospel.  

Meet me (Hamish):  I'm in my second year as pastor of young adults and sna (but I hope to be around another few years).  I've asked around about how I'm different from previous pastors and my here are the top answers:
    1. He thinks he is a bit of a hippy
    2. He wants us to make the world a better place and sends us to do community service
    3. He tells us not to come to church unless we are ready to encourage one another.

Okay so I didn't actually do a survey that is statistically accurate, but I reckon that's a good summary of lots of conversations I've had.  And I'm happy with those answers.

So come along.  We aren't that big so you can't  sneak into a service late and remain anonymous.  You will have lots of people come and talk to you during the welcoming time.  And that is what we value most!  People.  I you don't like people then we aren't where you want to be!  If you are looking for a community of people who are trying their best to be authentic followers of Jesus, and who are there to support and build each other up, then we are the church for you.
